The courses, articles, and projects documented on this site reflect principles of inquiry based constructivist practice that are also inspired by the schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy.  In Emergent Curricula classrooms teachers observe with intention.  They interpret observations to discern what children know and question so they can facilitate learning and problem solving along with children.  Children are encouraged to express their knowledge, to question, and to problem solve through their interactions with a wide variety of materials and social interactions.  Documentation of the learning and thinking processes of children and teachers is essential for the reflective practices in this approach.
